Anjelica's comments on "The Crossing Guard" (taken from DVD)
About the essense of the film
"The subject of the film interested me very much and also maybe overcoming some of my old personal heirs of though, thank God I've never been through something like loosing a child, I'd lost my parents, but in the way I think it's incapable , parent use force to go before you, but the children have force to die first. And... am... and how it is that you can survive without taking this entirely, personally... am... without feeling that it's... am... act of God against you, how you can... am... how you can help somebody else to disconnect feeling or pain in general."
About the essense of the film
"I cried when I read the script. It's a terrible... am... situation... am... for everyone I loved. It's one of those things that happens and comes out of gloom and all the sudden, the person that you love the most in the world is no longer. Am... and I has to do it with the importance of treasuring those things when are there, how we still have the chance on it to direct each other what you're doing in a kind way, because as far as we know what it's like we have no chance to do that. And the reason of going back and the reason of second chance. Am... and so, and these people[main characters of the film] had been forced into this position, into this reactly position and from this incident... and it's after them to find some kind of way of dealing that... am... for the rest of their lives. And it's the kind of thing that brings out the most terrible age and fear and heartbreak. And this is about the process that people go through, sure."
About the shootings of the 1st scene
It's a meeting of about 20 people, whose friends or relatives had died in car accidents. And some of them tell the group about the accidents and their feelings. The scene is short, a little more than a minute. Anjelica listens to the tellers and in the end a tear appears on her face. The director Sean Penn said that this scene had been shooting for about 5 hours. He just couldn't stop the actors' acting. He didn't even say any word to them. And also he said that Anjelica was really wonderful.
About Robbie Robertson
Robbie Robertson's character is Anjelica's new husband. Her ex is Jack, of course. Anjelica and Jack's two kids live with Anjelica and Robbie. In this scene Jack comes to Anjelica's house, talks with Robbie and then Anjelica and the boys come. Sean Penn said that in this scene there were two titans - Anjelica and Jack and he wanted to find someone interesting for this scene. He tought about Robbie Robertson and he called Anjelica and asked her about Robertson. She said: "Great, it's a good idea".
