Sobre as faixas
Lacrymosa: há um trecho instrumental do Réquiem de Mozart no início da música. Após, são ditas as frases em latim que também fazem parte do Réquiem e que aparecem em Anything for You do CD Demos Bootleg 2001/2002. As frases em latim são "Lacrimosa dies illa, qua resurget ex favilla judicandus homo reus. Huic ergo parce, Deus. Pie Jesu, Domine, dona eis requiem. Amen.", que significam "Lacrimosa dia de lágrimas, aquele em que o homem pecador renasce da sua cinza para ser julgado. Tende, pois, piedade dele, Deus. Ó piíssimo Jesus, ó Senhor, concedei-lhe o repouso eterno. Amém". Foi escrita e não aprovada para o filme Chronicles of Narnia / Crônicas de Nárnia pois a produção "queria algo original", conforme Amy disse.
Good Enough: sua introdução é uma parte de outra música também composta para o filme Chronicles of Narnia / Crônicas de Nárnia e não aprovada pela produção do filme por ser considerada muito sombria e épica. Cogitada para edição, Amy disse que "não comprometeria sua arte".
The Last Song I'm Wasting on You: gavada, mas não entrou para as faixas do CD. Foi distribuída como faixa bônus para quem comprou o download do CD antecipadamente pela internet, juntamente com uma entrevista com Amy Lee. Acima de cada letra de música, aparece uma imagem diferente. Elas têm analogia com a letra. Em Sweet Sacrifice, uma mariposa, da família das borboletas, representa o que a letra chama de "You poor sweet innocent thing". Na interpretação psicanalítica dos sonhos, a borboleta aparece muitas vezes como um símbolo de libertação, como em "Now that I'm unchained"; no simbolismo cristão, a borboboleta simboliza por um lado a ressurreição e imortalidade e por outro a vaidade vazia e a futilidade, devido a sua vida curta e beleza passageira. O siginificado da borboleta, baseia-se, contudo, em sua metamorfose, de ovo, para lagarta e de crisálida, presa à rigidez da morte, para inseto alado com cores brilhantes e voltada para a luz do sol. Por isso na Antiguidade, ela já era um símbolo da alma, pelo fato de não se extinguir para a morte. A passagem que representa todo este simbolismo é, portanto, a parte final em que o coral canta "I dream in darkness, I sleep to die, Erase the silence, Erase my life, Our burning ashes blacken the day, A world of nothingness blow me away". Em Call me When You're Sober, aparece uma formiga. Junto das letras Weight of the World e Lithium, um guarda-chuva lembra uma proteção, algo que não permite que outras coisas nos toquem, como nas passagens "Like all my screming has gone unheard" e "If you love me, then let go of me" de Weight of the World e "Don't wanna lock me up inside" e "Can't break free until I let it go - let me go" de Lithium. O guarda-chuva também lembra Mary Poppins, figura clássica que o usa para voar "Freefall, freefall, all through life". Em Cloud Nine, aparece um pássaro, dando alusão à liberdade e ligando-se às passagens "If you want to live, let live" e "I just want to feel that high". Em Snow White Queen, conforme a inspiração da música, uma gaiola cerca o pássaro único (Amy disse que essa faixa veio dos momentos nos quais ela não podia sair dos hotéis pois alguém a perseguia. Há uma espécie de adoração e doença na letra da música - "There's nowhere to run", "Soon I know you'll see you're just like me" e "Don't scream anymore, my love, 'cause all I want is you"). Na página de Lose Control aparece um cordeiro, citado explicitamente na letra, "my lamb". Em The Only One, aparece um animal mitológico, o Grifo, que põe ovos de ouro e é associado a muitas virtudes e nenhum vício; como se trata da representação do magnífico, faz referência a todo o contexto da música, inclusive o título. Em Your Star, aparece uma luneta, instrumento utilizado para ver estrelas e planetas distantes da Terra - "I can't see your star". Em All that I'm Living for, a chave simboliza a passagem "Lock the last open door". E, em Good Enough, o colar com o coração mostra o amor em que toda a música se mergulha.
Para a versão digital do CD The Open Door comprada pelos iTunes, o encarte apresentava uma pequena modificação. As páginas das músicas Lacrymosa e Like You não são como as encontradas no encarte comum, elas também apresentam figuras como as outras letras. Há uma lágrima em Lacrymosa e um caixão em Like You.
O CD tem como figura uma cosntelação. A capa do CD The Open Door é em Digipak, feita inteiramente de papelão. Não há a usual caixa plástica, sendo a resolução da impressão muito melhor em comparação aos CDs normais. A duração, no entanto, é menor. A lateral e os detalhes são em dourado.
Amy Lee havia feito um rascunho para a capa do CD, bem interessante, que ela postou no EvClub. A porta da capa do CD trata-se de uma pintura feita à mão. Algumas imagens podem ser vistas clicando aqui e aqui, e foram postas à venda no eBay. É também possíel assistir a um pequeno vídeo sobre a conclusão da capa do CD The Open Door.
Sobre o CD
A banda gravou 18 músicas novas: 13 foram incluídas no CD The Open Door. The Last Song I'm Wasting on You, If You Don't Mind, Together Again e outras duas de nomes desconhecidos foram gravadas, mas não entraram para as faixas do CD. The Last Song I'm Wasting on You foi distribuída como faixa bônus para quem comprou o download do CD antecipadamente pela internet, juntamente com uma entrevista com Amy Lee.
O CD The Open Door possui um trailer. Nele são apresentadas uma porta se abrindo, como tema principal do CD, e uma foto promocional de Amy. A música que toca são partes de Lacrymosa. Você pode assistir ao trailer clicando aqui.
